The Play Date Cafe #147

This week at The Play Date Cafe, like always, we have a really beautiful color palette! Check it out:

Our sponsor is the very fun, high-quality gel-a-tins!

They are providing an awesome prize, and they also sent us designers some really cute stamps! Look at what I did with them:

I used: acrylic paint, book paper, Ranger color wash, Ranger paint dabbers, Tim Holtz distress stain, cardstock, a bit of green patterned paper, punchinella, and this fun flame stamp! (the stamp is an outline-I filled the outline in with paint)

Also, the little green flowers are made with a gel-a-tins stamp & paint, too!

I hope you like it!  Remember to check out The Play Date Cafe blog for complete challenge and prize information!

The Play Date Cafe #146

Well, it has been a long couple of weeks, since the move. I am starting school (teaching) next week and I have so much to get ready still! This week, for the Play Date Cafe challenge, we have one of our very popular "color splash" palettes for you! I love the splash this week...lime!
Our sponsor this week is the very fun SRM Stickers!
And here is my take on the challenge:
I freehanded the dress and I love how it turned out! Supplies used: an old dayplanner, gesso, paint, acrylic paint, paint dabber from Ranger, ink spray, mod podge, punchinella, harlequin stencil from Crafter's workshop, punchinella, script stamp by La BLanche, alphabet stamps by Studio G, date stamp from Office Max, and finally---stickers provided by our generous sponsor, SRM Stickers (stitching along the side the dress, the scallop at the bottom, and the green squiggles at the top and bottom of the page)!

Thanks so much for checking out my page this week! For complete rules and prize information, go to The Play Date Cafe blog!

The Play Date Cafe Challenge #145

Welcome to The Play Date Cafe Challenge #145! Check out the gorgeous color story:
Our sponsor this week is the fabulous Momenta! (Check out the PDCC blog for complete prize information.)

This week, I felt like making a card instead of a canvas or art journal page. But, after I made it, I liked it so much, I didn't want to add a greeting (because then I might have to give it away!), so I kept the word simple and ambiguous :) I actually took inspiration from one of the photos in the color story, too (the hearts).
Supplies: gesso, acrylic paint, SEI tumble dye, punchinella, book paper, alphabet stencil, flowers, Stampin' Up typewriter keys roller stamp, mod podge, masking tape, a plastic doily, grid stamp by Kaisercraft, adhesive trim by K & Company

Play Date Cafe Challenge #144

I am so excited to bring you this week's Play Date Cafe Challenge #144!  I love these bright, happy, summer colors, and I love how my canvas turned out. I also want to officially welcome the very talented Jen Cuthbertson to our team!

Here is the beautiful color story:

This week we have an amazing sponsor--Simon Says Stamp!
Simon Says Stamp
And here is my mixed media project:
I am a huge fan of Christy Tomlinson and She Art, and I have really enjoyed creating my own types of girls and poses.

I drew this girl myself, modeled after this photograph I found on the internet, ( here is the original photo).

I started with a 6x6 canvas board, then used paint, gesso, book paper, masking tape, and sheet music to create the background. I also used SEI Tumble Dye. I used a Crafter's Workshop stencil (Harlequin), punchinella, and vintage plastic doilies. I also used a roller stamp from Stampin' Up.

Then, I drew and cut out her body from book paper and mod podged it on. I painted and outlined her, and added her dress and sash, and outlined that. Finally, I drew in her hair!

I was maybe going to add a happy word on the side, but I decided that she speaks for herself (even without a mouth, hah!)  After she was all done, I realized that my girl's proportions aren't quite correct (don't look too closely at the leg on the left!) but I think overall she looks cute!

Be sure to go to The Play Date Cafe for complete details on how to participate in the challenge, and prize information. Be sure to link up your creations by Tuesday, August 14, at 11:59PM EST!

Play Date Cafe Challenge #143

Hello, and welcome to my first official challenge post as a member of The Play Date Cafe Design team! I am so excited to be showing off my creation this week, I love how it turned out.

Here is the color story for PDCC#143:

And here is my mixed media canvas:

This is a 5x7in canvas. I used various acrylic paints, inks, and gesso to make the background. I also used some book paper and masking tape. The flowers are hand cut circles from book paper, with buttons in the center!  On the right hand side of the canvas I used some Liquitex Light Modeling Paste through a plastic doily to create texture, I used a few Stampin' Up rub-ons, some alphabet stamps (manufacturer unknown) and the "Shine" stamp (Studio 112). I also used a script stamp and my own writing to add some interest to the background. Here are a few closeups:
