More Project Shares

As is my style, I like to save up a bunch of projects and share them all at once, so here goes:

1) I loved my other altered book cover so much, I did it to another one:

Supplies of note: Tim Holtz Ideaology charms, Prima Wood Gears, Finnabair Vintage Vanity flowers, Roman Numerals, and mechanicals, Harlequin Stencil by Crafters Workshop, Luminarte Silks acrylic glazes for color

2) I participated in Christy Tomlinson's She Art 3 Workshop several months ago, and here are some results. I am still working on getting faces to look right.

This last one below was an experiment--I tried making a more traditional face, and hated it, so I painted over it with some strange colors just to see what it would look like...I still might paint over it again, who knows :)

 3)  A few more art journal spreads:

(This layout was very inspired by this layout by by Kasia)
Supplies of note: Stamps by Stampin' Up, Tim Holtz filmstrip border

Supplies of note: Prima flower (black and white patterned), Pink Paislee Artisan Chipboard heart, Prima wood gear

I honestly don't have a list of all of the products I used for these, but if there is something specific that you are wondering about, please comment or contact me and I can let you know! I tried to list the manufacturer-specific ones above, but I also use a lot of random stash items and off-brand stuff.

Thanks for stopping by!

Play Date Cafe Challenge #153

Wow, this week seemed like a whirlwind! We had visitors over the weekend, which was great fun, but now I am worn out!

Here is the lovely color story for the week:

And our always amazing sponsor, Simon Says Stamp!
Simon Says Stamp

So this week, I was in the mood to make a true "She Art" girl because I  haven't for awhile. I think I am out of practice! She ended up cute, but it took several tries and lots of gesso to cover up some mistakes! :)

Here she is:

It's a little hard to see in the photos, but just to the left of her skirt, you can see a doily. This doily was one that was owned by my grandmother who died before I knew her. But she was into crafts and left behind a cache of neat things, including lots of packs of paper doilies.

By nature, I want to save and hoard things and was slightly reluctant to use up any of her supplies. But I realized that she would probably want things used in projects rather than disintegrate or get thrown away years down the road or whatever. I know I got some of my talent and interests from her (and my other also artsy grandmother!) and the best way I know how to honor her is to incorporate some of her supplies into my own work.

Anyways, I hope you're having a great week and enjoying the fall weather if it is getting cooler where you live (it sure is here! pulled out the jacket for the first time this season!). Make sure to stop by The Play Date Cafe for complete rules and prize information!

Another Steampunkish Girl

For some reason, I really love creating these old-timey girls. I really like how this one turned out in person, but just couldn't get a great shot of her on my camera.

I made this one a bit differently. Usually I start with a pencil sketch, then cut out each clothing item from pieces of paper, then mod podge each piece into the book (then paint over it, etc). This one, I sketched her, and then cut out the entire sketch and modpodged that into the book.

Also, I added a parasol, which I LOVE! Too bad there is a bit of glare in the photo there. I also added the Tim Holtz stamp quote....can't decide if I like it or not.

Lastly, I realized after doing her hair, I need a new hairstyle for my girls. They almost all have the same one...hmm...

A Peek at my art

Apparently, "shortly" in my world means about 6 weeks, because that's how long it took to actually pretty up the blog! And well, it's still not that pretty but at least it's better than it was before.

So I guess I will share a little bit of my body of work here to get started. I have been taking several workshops, mostly from Christy Tomlinson, but also from Roben-Marie Smith and Traci Bautista (on Strathmore).

I have so many things to share but here are just a few of my favorites:

inspired by the SheArt workshops:

Girl

Brother and Sister

inspired by Roben-Marie's art journal conversion class:

and a random art journal pages:

And my other artsy love is digital scrapbooking. Here are a few of my favorite pages lately:

Well, thanks for looking! Hopefully I will be back soon with more posts.
